the fashion soundtracks sessions III

how cool making a fashion movie is? i wonder from time to time, like now while i play with the bubbles in my coffee. through this column i started developing a particular interest in fashion videos & movies without even knowing it, and especially in the executive-slash-creative-slash-i’m a control freak like that part of it.

for this session, my lovely children, things are more mixed up musically & more bizzare [and perhaps nonchalant] visually. currently going through the phase of contradictions: the more delicate the collection, the more badass the music. the simpler the collection, the more bizzare the concept. get it? so let’s get down to bussiness.

_mcmenay x M·A·Cthere’s nothing non-captivating on Kristen Μcmenamy and her husband Miles Aldridge knew that very well when filming her. covered in extravagant new M·A·C cosmetic line, Reel Sexy and old hollywood hair, she brings out emotion. inner, deep emot.. ugh words are not enough, just watch the film already.

_dion lee a/w 2012: the magic of movement. the body breathing life into clothes. Dion Lee’s debuts his a/w 2012 collection outside his home, australia and headed off to london fashion week with this ethereal & strongly emotional film. model Ruby Jean Wilson as the breather of life.

_walter pfeiffer fashion film:  ahh, god only knows how attached i am to london. but that wasn’t the only reason ι loved Walter Pfeiffer’s & Robbie Spencer’s fashion film. the debate of east london: “east london is dead if you believe it’s dead” according to Josh Quinton, one of the creative protagonists of the film. and exactly that is being showcased through the “allegro” soundtrack and the “staccato” scenes.

_A.F. Vandevorst / delfine: just a part of seven unique series, the aesthetics of Dries Van Noten, Gareth Pugh & Rick Owens are portrayed through the design team of A.F Vandevorst. and so you know, "the project is not about clothes; it’s about character" created to celebrate the opening of Womens Designer Galleries at london department store, Selfridges.

the fashion soundtracks sessions II

you can stop the press: exams are ovah and i’m back for good fellas. naturally, due to the five-days celebrations, it was time for the second part of the fashion soundtracks sessions. fashion weeks were the perfect inspiration to get me in the mood for the following playlist. so here we go:

prada / spring_summer 2012 campaign

prada’s spring-summer 2012 women could easily be the wonderwomen of the 50s. so much colorful badass-nes! the looks & the scenes are accompanied by musical diversity as the radio stations change in the car and short stories [the “whatch-it-biatch” is a favourite part]. need to say brilliantly conceptual?

victoria beckham / victoria, by quentin harris

for the launch of her new line victoria, quentin harris came forth, creating a  weird, unexpected video. and all these in the best of meanings. in this fantasy world victoria’s girl is coming out of pages, is turned upside-down, has kittens all over and the cutest dresses on.

chanel / the making of spring_summer 2012 ready-to-dear campaign

this collection’s campaign dropped jaws, that’s an undeniable fact. i wanted to live in karl’s photographs, litterally. but the making-of video is equally captivating and lead me to some conclusions: it’s is the visual explanation why a) fashion is discipline, b) discipline has to meet the limitless imagination, c) real models actually do what they’re asked to do [and do it pretty damn good].

edun / beautiful rebels, spring_summer 2012

don’t confuse. this is not a butterfly film. ryan mcginley chose to highlight edun’s spring-summer 2012 collection through the magic the enclose. and there’s nothing more magical than butterflies. just beautiful rebels.

the fashion soundtracks sessions

very often this thing happens to me: listening to various songs i stumble upon & picture them as a catwalk’s or a fashion film’s sountrack [the latter mostly]. so, i put together a list of my current favourite potential soundtracks for you to kill your time with. and plus bonus! a recap of my fave fashion videos, that i’m so fascinated by, so you can let your inner fashion director more easily free. oh boy, your day is gonna be so well entertained!

miu miu / the powder room: the first of “the miu miu women’s tales” by zoe cassavetes, highly hypnotising & by many, not the most understandable film in the fashion world. that’s totally irrelevant.

prada / real fantasies fw2011 motionbook: miuccia really wants you to explore your fantasies about her brand, with the very anticipated-and really fun-motionbook.

kate moss in inez & vinoodh / everglade: inez & vinoodh as double agents have been spying on kate moss’s performance on set for the fall/winter’11 balmain campaign. a whole magic world unfolds around kate. [presented by nowness]

matias & mathias for bjorg jewelry / heresy: on of my favourite fashion videos for one of my favourite jewelry labels & its 2012 collection. mythology, poetry, odyssey, imagination, escapism.

chanel / the tale of a fairy part 1 & 2: another masterpiece of a short fashion film.a different kind though. anna mouglalis, freja beha erichsen & kristen mcmenamy as the hysteric rich one. i was thrilled by it - and i can’t even remember what was the last time i was thrilled by a chanel debut. [as someone commented, how funny would it be if the luggage were louis or something?]

thierry mugler / anatomy of change: rick genest does his debute & the world gets shocked. that’s all!

ysl / manifesto: inez & vinoodh once again. one walk, one woman, can you count the looks? black, white, hot pink & a hot daria.

vogue italia by steven meisel / waisted luxury march2011:think of backstage show’s photos but in a fashion film. and for a vogue editorial spread. and by steven meisel. it is whats it is; atmospheric, artistic, visual backstage-reporting luxury.not waisted.
